Art of the Loader Dozer from the LEGO Rock Raiders video game

The Loader Dozer (alternatively written Loader-Dozer) is a fictional mining vehicle in the LEGO Rock Raiders theme. It is depicted as a large machine that functions as both a loader and a bulldozer, hence its name.

Design

Prototype

The Loader Dozer was designed at LEGO Futura in Billund.

The 1997 Aquaraiders set Aqua Dozer (2161) used a similar scooping system with a bucket on the front connected to a lever on the back.[1]

Set information

The Granite Grinder was released as LEGO set #4950 The Loader-Dozer in 1999.[2] It was advertised as containing 89 pieces and includes a minifigure of Axle, a rock monster, and a power crystal in a boulder.[3]It was released in the United States as "Loader-Dozer" on 1 July 1999 with a retail price of $22.00 and a recommended age range of 7–12.[4][3] In the United Kingdom it was released in August 1999.[2] In Russia it released in September 1999.[5] The Loader-Dozer was also advertised with the set number 4959,[4] though this may have been a typo.

loading and dozing

In the Windows version of LEGO Rock Raiders, the Loader Dozer is classified as a Large Vehicle.[6] It costs four Energy Crystals to teleport down one Loader Dozer.[7] It teleports down at the Super Teleport.[8] Rock Raiders must be trained as drivers to use this vehicle.[7]

The Loader Dozer can travel across land and moves at a speed of 0.5 blocks per second.[6] This speed is equal to that of the Granite Grinder and Small Mobile Laser Cutter and faster than only the Chrome Crusher and Large Mobile Laser Cutter.

The Loader Dozer has the following dependency required before it can be transported down:[9]

Once an Upgrade Station has been constructed, the Loader Dozer can be upgraded. It has the following upgrades:[7]

  • Cargo Hold: Costs 5 pieces of Ore (1 Building Stud). This upgrade gives the vehicle the ability to carry 2 Energy Crystals or pieces of Ore.[6] Two small tipper beds, like those used by some small vehicles, are added on top of the vehicle's upgrade spoiler.
  • Engine: Costs 20 pieces of Ore (4 Building Studs). This upgrade increases the vehicle's speed to 0.8 blocks per second, a 60% increase.[6] Two small jets are added ???
  • Scanner: Costs 5 pieces of Ore (1 Building Stud). This upgrade gives the vehicle a scanning radius of 5 blocks.[6] A large scanner, identical to the one that the Chrome Crusher has, is attached on top of the vehicle's upgrade spoiler.

Technical details

In the game's configuration file, the Loader Dozer is defined as Bulldozer[6] under the VehicleTypes {} section.[10]
