What's the best way to handle the game lists including the handheld versions of games? Should they be separate entries or just treated as a side note or whatever?

I think that largely depends on the content? Same game on different console can be grouped together, but, say, a PC game VS a GBA game, they are totally separate entries

Yeah I was thinking about the GBC and GBA stuff.

Like currently the Lego Media game list is like this for instance, where it has links to the handheld alternatives (and Playstation in the case of Rock Raiders) in small parenthesis after the main title, but I wasn't sure if it'd be better to just have a separate entry or if multiple entries with the same title would be confusing to some.

Maybe the whole way these are listed needs to be reworked though, I just copied the way Wikipedia's list of Lego games is set up but idk if that's ideal, some other game lists do it differently with a little more detail in each entry and not those arbitrary columns dividing pc/console/handheld/mobile like that.

Do we even have enough info about the handheld versions to make full pages? I don't think there's a single one with enough relevant information to constitute an entire page

Like which for instance? Pretty much all of them I think I think can have a good gameplay section and maybe some minimal release and review info at worst. The only games i can think of that wouldn't have any info are like, some of those browser games that are just completing a puzzle or something.

I think there should be one page per game unless it necessarily needs 2. PS rock raiders has enough to be it's own page I feel, but I'm not sure the handheld versions do?

they're all significantly different in some way from their main version, and usually made by a separate studio

I guess that's true, but like LEGO Stunt Rally GBC.

the entire game is hold A.

like I'm not really sure what you can say about it.

I'll find something I'm sure, it at least has levels and a few reviews probably. Though that one I really don't know anything about besides people say it's really bad

I'm honestly not sure, I think it would be good for input from a few peoples, but me personally I don't think every single port and revision needs it's own page

— MrPinball64 05:11, 10 June 2024 (CET)

They're not, just the ones that are essentially different games as most Gameboy ports kinda tended to be. If a port is otherwise mostly the same with some notable differences it'll just be noted on the main game page (eg Drome Racers Gamecube or that Japanese port of My Style).

idk I originally thought grouping titles together like that was best too, but I think Emma made some good points against that at some point.

But the only other point I'd split a game page is like, if the development section got really really long, and I think there's only a few games we have enough info about that that might happen.

I definitely think there are a few good things to be said, but for some of the smaller games I'm not sure how useful a seperate page will be if it's only details about developer, gameplay etc. In my mind I'm imagining it like have the main game with the infobox etc, then as you go down the handheld ports but all on the same page - thoughts?

My intuition still says different pages for different systems, because they have different developers, design, release dates etc.

The 2 versions of PS1 Rock Raiders though is 2 versions, like 2 editions, 2 releases of the same game, that should only be noted on the game page itself. I think it makes sense?

We can also think about how this applies to Tt Games which, if this project is gonna keep going for a few decades, those games are gonna become "vintage" lol. I think the content of LEGO Star Wars for DS is wildly different from a Wii version, for instance. Not entirely sure though, but if it isn't, they should be on the same page.

The differences between GBA/GBC games and the PC/console equivalents are way too large to be considered a "port" though, I think?

DS versions are different iI think (especially Bionicle Heroes); PSP versions might not be, idk what they're like. But yeah I don't think any of these retail games are too small to say nothing about. Maybe if you get into the era of mobile games that are just a substitution for web games some of those are.
