Preben Dewald Hansen (1944 − 19 October 2000)[1][2] was a Danish teacher who was the product manager at LEGO Publishing.
Biography
In 1968 Preben Dewald was hired at the Klostergades School in Vejle. After Klostergades closed in 1978,[3] Dewald started working at the Skibet School. Dewald taught language, mathematics, visual arts, and music at Skibet, and also worked at the school library. He started lecturing at Vejle's binding centre and wrote a book about the city's history, Vejle Bys Historie i korte træk.[2]
Dewald became known for his knowledge on children's literature outside of Skibet. As a result of his experience, in 1987 he was hired by the LEGO Group as the product manager of the new LEGO Publishing department. Dewald left Skibet for his new job, though he visited the school regularly.[2]
Preben Dewald is listed in the acknowledgements for The Ultimate LEGO Book as one of two LEGO Group employees at LEGO Futura who helped produce the book, along with Jan Harder Blæsild.[4]
Following a restructuring at the LEGO Group in 1999, Dewald left the company and returned to Skibet School, where he taught a grade 1 class containing children of some of his former students. Following a summer vacation in Norway in 2000, he became ill and was hospitalised shortly after the start of the school year. Dewald died on 19 October 2000, aged 56.[2]
