Preben Dewald Hansen (1944 − 19 October 2000)[1][2] was a Danish teacher who was the product manager at LEGO Publishing.

Biography

In 1968 Preben Dewald started teaching at the Klostergades School in Vejle. After Klostergades closed in 1978,[3] Dewald was hired by the Skibet School [da]. Dewald taught language, mathematics, visual arts, and music at Skibet, and also worked at the school library. He started lecturing at Vejle's binding centre and wrote a book about the city's history, Vejle Bys Historie i korte træk.[2]

Dewald became known for his knowledge on children's literature outside of Skibet. As a result of his experience, in 1987 he was hired by the LEGO Group as the product manager of the LEGO Publishing department. Dewald left Skibet for his new job, though he visited the school regularly.[2]

(write more about LP here)[4]

LEGO Publishing ceased normal operations a few years later when it was changed into LEGO Licensing,[5][6] though Dewald remained as part of LEGO Futura and continued managing book production.[7][8]

Preben Dewald is listed in the acknowledgements for The Ultimate LEGO Book as one of two LEGO Group employees at LEGO Futura who helped produce the book, along with Jan Harder Blæsild.[7]

Dewald left the LEGO Group in 1999, following a restructuring at the company and due to health reasons.[2][9] He returned to Skibet School, where he taught a grade 1 class containing children of some of his former students. After spending a summer vacation in Norway in 2000, his health worsened and he was hospitalised shortly after the start of the school year. Dewald died on 19 October 2000, aged 56.[2][10] Skibet's school principal Eric Andersen[11] wrote a memorial for Dewald in the Folkeskolen [da] trade magazine.[2]
