LEGO Group facilities in Billund

From Research Realm
(Redirected from Innovation House)

The LEGO Group has since its foundation in Billund in 1932 created numerous buildings to facilitate development of LEGO products. The size and scope of these have grown with the size of the company itself.

Ole Kirk's House

The oldest building associated with the LEGO Group is Ole Kirk's House, where Ole Kirk Christiansen, the founder of the LEGO Group, lived. It has today been converted into part of a private museum: The LEGO Idea House. It has been renovated and altered several times since it was built.

The wooden workshop

The wooden workshop is where all the LEGO wooden toys were produced. It was built in conjunction with Ole Kirk's House. It burned down several times over the years. The lower floor is today part of the LEGO Idea House, with the upper floor reserved for the "LEGO Vault".

The System House

The "System House" was built in 1958 in response to the quickly expanding LEGO System in Play. It is a 2-story building with a studded exterior reminiscent of LEGO studs. The lower floor is today part of the LEGO Idea House, with the upper floor reserved for LEGO workplaces.

Project House

Project House is a massive building built in 1997 (?), mostly as a place for LEGO Futura. After the erection of Innovation House, Project House still serves as a site for LEGO product development, and houses several product development teams.

Innovation House

The Innovation House was built in ???? and served as an expansion of the Project House. It is today the main site of LEGO product development, where LEGO sets are designed.

LEGO Idea House

The LEGO Idea House is a private museum of the LEGO Group. Only LEGO employees can enter, and they are allowed to bring close family and friends, under their own supervision. The museum features a detailed history of the LEGO Group, from the oldest wooden toys, to the newest innovations, and

LEGOLAND Billund

LEGOLAND Billund Resort is a theme park built in 1968. It was for many years only referred to as "LEGOLAND Parken", meaning "The LEGOLAND Park", as there were no other LEGOLAND parks at the time (excluding the brief stint of the Sierksdorf park in Germany). It has expanded a lot over the years, and is today owned by the LEGO Group.

Hotel LEGOLAND

Hotel LEGOLAND is a LEGO themed hotel next to LEGOLAND Billund.

History

The LEGOLAND Hotel was originally not built by the LEGO Group, but by the oil company Esso. It was built and inaugurated to coincide with the opening of the LEGOLAND park, and was at the time called Esso Motor Hotel, a hotel chain present at the time in Europe.

Hotel Vis-a-vis

In 1973, the Esso Motor Hotel chain was shut down, and as such, the LEGO Group stepped in and purchased the hotel. It was renamed to "Hotel Vis-a-Vis", which it kept until 1991, when it was finally renamed to "Hotel LEGOLAND".

LEGOLAND® Castle Hotel

The Castle Hotel is an expansion of Hotel LEGOLAND that features a castle theme and rooms themed around LEGO Castle.
